Maker role
Fellow Maker - Board Game Tables & Wooden Games Craftsperson
Join Our Workshop. Build Something Beautiful.
At Meeplewood, we don’t just make furniture—we craft experiences, build community, and create pieces that bring people together around the gaming table. We’re looking for a fellow maker who wants to be part of something meaningful, not just clock in and out.
About Meeplewood
We handcraft beautiful board game tables and traditional wooden games like Crokinole from premium hardwood timber. Every piece we create is made with passion, precision, and purpose. We’re deeply embedded in the UK board gaming community—attending shows, sponsoring events, supporting local game clubs, and putting customers at the heart of everything we do.
This isn’t just a job. It’s an opportunity to change your life and do something beautiful with your hands, your heart, and your time.
The Role
Position: Fellow Maker – Craftsperson
Location: Surrey West Sussex boarder workshops (must be able to travel to site)
Type: Full-time
Salary: Competitive, based on experience and commitment
You’ll work alongside our team crafting bespoke board game tables—from transforming coffee tables to dining tables with vaulted gaming areas—and traditional wooden games. You’ll learn the art of woodworking, finishing, and creating pieces that customers will treasure for life.
What We’re Looking For
Character Over Experience
We care more about who you are than what’s on your CV. We can teach skills, techniques, and craftsmanship—but we can’t teach passion, integrity, or the desire to be part of something bigger than yourself.
You might be our person if you:
Have a genuine passion for making things with your hands
Take pride in your work and care about quality
Are reliable and committed—we’re building something together
Want to be part of a community-driven organisation that values people over profit
Are curious and eager to learn new skills
Have a positive attitude and enjoy working as part of a team
Believe in doing beautiful work that matters
Practical Skills (Helpful but Not Essential)
We’re looking for someone who’s practical, logical, and hands-on. You might be:
A DIY enthusiast who loves working with tools
Someone who’s always fixing, building, or creating things
A problem-solver who enjoys working through challenges
Comfortable with physical work and being in a workshop environment
Detail-oriented with good hand-eye coordination
Experience we value (but don’t require):
Woodworking, carpentry, or joinery
Furniture making or restoration
General construction or trade skills
Craftsmanship of any kind
Working with hand and power tools
The truth is: If you’re willing to learn, work hard, and care about what you create, we’ll teach you everything else.
What You’ll Do
Craft board game tables from start to finish—cutting, assembling, sanding, finishing
Create traditional wooden games like Crokinole boards with precision and care
Work with premium materials including hardwood timber and furniture-grade components
Learn specialized techniques in woodworking, finishing, and custom furniture creation
Collaborate with the team to fulfill custom orders and ready-made pieces
Maintain workshop standards including tool care, safety, and organization
Contribute ideas to improve processes and product quality
Be part of our community by potentially attending events and engaging with customers
What We Offer
More Than a Paycheck
Learn a craft from experienced makers who genuinely want to teach you
Flexible, supportive environment where your wellbeing matters
Creative input on designs and processes
Community connection through our events, sponsorships, and customer relationships
Pride in your work—you’ll see your creations bring joy to families and gamers
Growth opportunities as you develop skills and take on more responsibility
Be part of something meaningful—we’re building a legacy, not just products
The Practical Stuff
Competitive salary with room for growth
Full training provided—no prior woodworking experience required
Safe, well-equipped workshop
Supportive team culture
Opportunity to attend gaming conventions and community events
Employee discounts on products
Our Values
This is what we stand for, and what we’re looking for in our team:
Passionate about craftsmanship and the board gaming community
Friendly and welcoming to everyone
Community-driven—we support and uplift others
Customer-first in everything we do
Quality-focused—we create pieces that last generations
Supportive—we grow together, not at each other’s expense
Who This Role Is Perfect For
Someone looking for a career change into something more meaningful
A DIY enthusiast ready to turn a hobby into a profession
Someone who’s tired of corporate life and wants to make things with their hands
A young person looking to learn a valuable trade
Anyone with a maker’s mindset who wants to be part of a passionate team
Someone who values craftsmanship, community, and quality over just a paycheck
Location & Requirements
Must be able to travel to our workshops in the Surrey West Sussex boarder
Full-time availability (Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend events)
Physical fitness for workshop tasks (lifting, standing, manual work)
Attention to safety and willingness to follow workshop protocols
Right to work in the UK
How to Apply
We want to know who you are, not just what you’ve done.
Send us an email at info@meeplewood.co.uk with:
1. A letter telling us your story (not a formal cover letter—just be yourself)
Why does this opportunity excite you?
What draws you to working with your hands?
What does “doing something beautiful with your life” mean to you?
2. Your CV or a summary of your background (formal or informal—we just want to understand your journey)
3. Optional: Photos or examples of anything you’ve made, fixed, or created (even if it’s not professional)
We’re reviewing applications on a rolling basis, so apply as soon as you’re ready.
A Final Word
This role is for someone who wants more than a job. It’s for someone who wants to wake up excited about what they’re creating, who they’re working with, and the community they’re serving.
If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
Let’s build something beautiful together.
Meeplewood is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive workplace where everyone can thrive.
